Vancouver — Southwestern Resources (SWG-T) has four diamond drill rigs spinning at its Boka gold project in Yunnan Province, China and is also gearing up for a drilling campaign at its Liam project, in southern Peru.
The rigs are testing the Boka 1 South and Boka 7 targets part of a large structurally controlled stratabound gold system. A three km long gold-in-soil anomaly was defined in the area from Boka 1 South to Boka 7. It remains open to the south.
In addition to the drilling, Southwestern reports that four exploration tunnels are being excavated at Boka 1 North, Boka 1 South and Boka 11. The junior states that all of the tunnels have encountered mineralization and samples have been shipped to the Langfang Laboratory in Beijing for sample preparation and analyses.
“The drilling program at Boka continues to illustrate the exceptional extent of the gold mineralization," said John Paterson, President of Southwestern. "Also, the appearance of heavy sulphide mineralization in our first exploration tunnel at Boka 11 is very encouraging.”
Metallurgical test work on four 200 kg samples of various ore types is underway at SGS Lakefield Research in Ontario. Southwestern anticipates results in about three weeks.
Meanwhile, at the 1,000 sq. km Sichuan joint venture, situated north and west of Boka, the first phase exploration program was recently completed. Sampling included 800 stream sediment and 200 rock chip samples. The company reports that it discovered 20 areas that exhibit similar geological features as seen at the Boka project
At the Liam project, in southern Peru, road construction is nearly complete to access Cerro Crespo and a drill rig is being mobilized. A 2,000 metre first phase drilling campaign is slated to commence in two weeks. The program will test diatreme breccias in a high sulphidation alteration zone for high-grade silver and gold mineralization.
