St. Jude cuts bonanza grade at South Benso (August 02, 2002)

Vancouver — St. Jude Resources (SJD-V) and joint venture partner Montreal-based Fairstar Explorations (FFR-T) have cut a number of spectacular gold intercepts at the South Benso concession in Ghana, West Africa,

The best intercept cut 12 metres averaging 78.71 grams gold per tonne and included a 1-metre section that assayed 567 grams gold. The South Benso concession is located adjacent to and immediately north of St. Jude’s Hwini-Butre concession. The drill results are from the Subriso Central and Subriso West gold prospects. The discovery hole in this area was SJB-47, which averaged 10.02 grams gold over 15 metres.

Recent drill results are as follows;

  • Hole SJB-56 intersected 2 metres averaging 3.36 grams gold starting 28 metres down-hole.
  • Hole SJB-57 cut 10 metres averaging 4.22 grams gold, starting 4 metres down-hole.
  • Hole SJB-58 cut 2 metres averaging 38.24 grams gold, starting 41 metres down-hole.
  • Hole SJB-59 cut 16 metres averaging 5.51 grams gold, starting 71 metres down-hole.
  • Hole SJB-62 hit 12 metres that assayed 78.71 grams gold, starting 70 metres down-hole. This included a 4-metre section that averaged 228.07 grams gold, starting at 72 metres. In one metre intervals from 72-to-76 metres down hole, the assays returned; 52.8 grams; 209.33 grams; 567 grams and; 83.15 grams gold, respectively.
  • Hole SJB-63 cut 10 metres averaging 14.87 grams gold, starting 64 metres down-hole. This included a 1-metre section that averaged 109 grams gold.
  • Hole SJB-64 cut 2 metres that assayed 21.56 grams gold, starting 37-metres down-hole.
  • Hole SJB-65 hit 10 metres averaging 1.17 grams gold, starting 85 metres down-hole. At a depth of 109 metres down-hole the drill cut 6 metres averaging 2.16 grams gold.
  • Hole SJB-66 intersected 11 metres averaging 2.29 grams gold, starting 63 metres down-hole.
  • Hole SJB-67 cut 6 metres grading 1.81 grams gold, starting 88 metres down-hole.

St. Jude Resources holds two Gold Coast projects in Ghana. These projects are know as the Hwini-Butre and South Benso and are located within the prolific Ashanti Gold Belt.

An independent resource calculation by Watts, Griffis & McOuat blocked out 936,000 oz. of gold, (526,000 oz. indicated and 374,000 oz. inferred), on the company’s Hwini-Butre concession.
