Jilbey Gold Exploration (JLB-V) has received more drill results that are sure to improve the resource at its Bissa gold property in central Burkina Faso, West Africa.
Back in March, Jilbey Gold optioned the Bissa and Zandkom permits, covering 800 sq. km from GEP Mines, a private company incorporated in Burkina Faso. Jilbey can earn a 60% interest in both permits by spending US$1.5 million over the next three years. Subject to specific conditions, the company can acquire up to 90% of the properties.
The Bissa Hill deposit has been estimated to contain about 90,000 oz. of gold. In 2001, it was estimated that the deposit had an inferred resource of 775,000 tonnes grading 3.75 grams gold per tonne from surface to a depth of 100 metres, based on a cutoff grade of 1 gram per tonne. This calculation did not take into account surface trenching. Follow up by another company defined an inferred resource of 500,000 tonnes grading 5.8 grams per tonne to a depth of 50 metres using a cutoff grade of 3 grams per tonne.
The permits cover a 22-km strike-length of the Sabce and Liliga Shear Zones. Thirty drill holes were completed by the beginning of May, and results from 29 of these are reported.
Results from the first 16 holes were reported at the beginning of May. Highlights of these include: 9.24 grams gold per tonne over 10 metres; 6.09 grams per tonne over a width of 20 metres; and 4.59 grams per tonne over 24 metres. Apart from these intersections, seven of the holes contained intercepts greater than 5 grams per tonne over widths ranging from 0.7 to 17 metres. All holes contained intercepts greater than 1.1 grams gold per tonne over a width of 2.25 metres.
Drill results from 13 holes were released in mid-May. Highlighting this drilling is a 34.5-metre intersection that graded 13.56 grams gold per tonne. Other holes also intersected wide intervals with good grades, such as 41.6 metres grading 5.43 grams gold per tonne, 29 metres grading 4.34 grams per tonne and 20 metres grading 6.16 grams gold per tonne. A further eight holes assayed between 1.61 and 5.9 grams per tonne over widths of 4 to 26 metres.
The Bissa Hill deposit is roughly 150 km southwest of High River Gold‘s (HRG-T) planned Taparko mill. In the event of mining, the companies have an agreement regarding milling on a toll basis at this facility.
Drilling is continuing and further assays are expected to be received by the end of June.
