Stratoni may need a new study

The Conseil d’tat, Greece’s supreme administrative court, says that TVX Gold (TVX-T) may or may not need to complete an environmental impact study to support permits allowing of the continuation of mining at its Stratoni operations.

However, the judge did reject all other arguments brought forward by a local action group petitioning for an annulment of TVX’s permits at Stratoni.

A final decision on the operation’s fate is expected in late 2002.

Last week, the Conseil ruled against the group’s petition to immediately suspend mining at the silver-lead-zinc operation in the village of Stratoniki.
