TSX Venture Exchange Oct. 30-Nov. 5

It was an up-and-down week for the S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index, as the junior board gained and lost daily over the Oct. 29-Nov. 5 trading session to close up just 2.6 points at 3,153.22. Average daily trading volume was down slightly from the robust levels of the previous week but remained strong, at 135.3 million.

The discrepancy between new yearly share price highs and lows shrank again, with the Venture board hosting 49 juniors hitting new annual highs and 52 that sank to new 52-week lows.

MacDonald Mines Exploration once again held the top trader position, moving 50.5 million shares to close the session up 30 at $1.12, close to the company’s 52-week high of $1.16. The junior explorer closed a $10-million private-placement financing early in the week, and on the heels of that news announced that Pinetree Capital was also picking up 3 million shares and 3 million warrants. Pinetree now holds 8% of MacDonald Mines, assuming the exercise of all warrants.

Another volume leader, Sage Gold, traded 36.5 million shares to close the session up 5 at 50. The junior holds two projects in the Beardmore-Geraldton greenstone belt in northern Ontario, neighbouring Kodiak Exporation’s Hercules gold discovery. Roxmark Mines, another Kodiak neighbour, holds 12 properties covering some 60.7 sq. km in the greenstone belt. Roxmark was also a volume leader, trading 14.2 million shares to close up 10 at 34.

Kodiak saw 13.2 million shares trade hands to post a 77 gain, closing the session at $4.12. An analysis of new geophysical data doubled the strike lengths of two major gold-bearing structures to 4 km and identified four new parallel structures. Kodiak also signed five option agreements with individual owners to acquire new properties in the greenstone belt.

And Noront Resources neighbours Spider Resources and KWG Resources continued to trade high volumes, with Spider moving 32.2 million shares to close up 2 at 16 and KWG trading 20.9 million shares to close down 0.5 at 13.5.

Noront released a steady stream of news over the session. Two sets of drill results from Double Eagle showed good palladium mineralization alongside the deposit’s nickel and copper; two sets of drill results from the Windfall Lake project in central Quebec included 7 metres of 14.4 grams gold per tonne. The news did not help Noront’s share price, which fell 60 to close at $5.48 on 20.6 million shares traded.

Ucore Uranium traded close to 6 million shares to close the session up 38 at 90. Drill results from the company’s Bokan Mountain project in southeast Alaska sparked the climb.

And following a 6.5-month halt, Janina Resources finally resumed trading and saw 3.8 million shares exchanged for a 55 gain, closing at 75. The company has a merger in the works with Horn Rare Metals, a private company that holds major interests in numerous beryllium mines in Uganda and Brazil.
