TSX Venture Exchange July 17-23

Although gold surged to an 11-week high over the July 17-23 trading session, the S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index only managed an 18.31-point gain, closing at 3,322.76. Average daily trading volumes were 78.6 million shares.

A bullish swing in the market saw gainers move ahead of decliners with 63 junior companies setting new annual highs against 49 that slumped to new 52-week lows.

Word of visible tungsten and molybdenum in drill core from its Falls Creek property in central New Brunswick sent First Narrows Resources soaring 62% on the week, closing up 26 at 68 per share on trading volume of more than 30 million shares.

Shares of Sultan Minerals spiked to a high of 71 over the week on volume of almost 19 million shares before finishing even at 45 apiece. Underground drilling at its Jersey-Emerald project, located in southeastern B.C., turned in more wide, high-grade molybdenum-mineralized intercepts and also encountered a new lead-zinc zone in the footwall of the past-producing mine.

Blue Note Mining continued to be a popular trader on the session, closing even at 71 per share with 12.9 million shares changing hands. The new producer has begun processing ore at its recently reactivated Caribou lead-zinc mine in New Brunswick and expects to have concentrates by the end of July.

Cream Minerals posted a 76% gain on the week to close up 31 at 72 per share on trading volume of 7.8 million shares. The rally came after initial drilling at its Wine-Radar Lake project, in northern Manitoba, cut 20.4 metres of 1.3% nickel and 2.27% copper.

Shares of Mag Silver crept up $1.31 to a new high of $15.80 apiece on trading volume of 622,000. A listing on the American Stock Exchange along with recent high-grade silver intercepts from its Valdecanas and Batopilas silver projects, in Mexico, sparked the rally.

On strong sustained lead and zinc prices, Tamerlane Ventures continued to touch new highs, closing the week up 42 at $2.87 per share on volume of 1.8 million shares. The company continues to advance the Pine Point lead-zinc deposit in the Northwest Territories, and recently acquired the Los Pinos copper project in southern Peru.

Golden Chalice Resources dropped 24% on the session after releasing results from another drill hole at its Timmins, Ont.-area Langmuir nickel project. Its shares closed down 68 at $2.18 apiece, on volume of 5.2 million shares, following a reported intercept of 11.6 metres of 1.11% nickel.

Seabridge Gold closed the week up $2.97 to touch a new high of $29.44 per share on trading volume of 125,000 shares. Drilling on its Noche Buena project in Sonora state, Mexico, confirmed a southeasterly extension to gold mineralization with grades and thickness similar to the main deposit.

Antares Minerals posted further gains, closing up 47 at $3.03 per share on trading volume of 428,000 shares. Recent deep drilling on its Haquira copper-gold porphyry project, in southern Peru, returned a long mineralized intercept.
