On the back of steady precious and base metal prices, the S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index chiselled out a modest gain of 32.85 points to close at 2,646.62 over the midsummer holiday-shortened Aug. 1-4 trading session. Average daily trading volumes of 43.6 million shares were posted.
