TSX Venture Exchange (November 20, 2006)

Steady gold and weakening copper prices marked a fairly static week for the S&P-TSX Venture Composite Index over the Nov. 7-13 trading session, inching down 5.06 points to 2,648.89. Average daily trading volumes also pulled back slightly to 69 million shares.

The gap between junior board gainers and losers tightened further with 39 companies rising to new 52-week highs over the week while 45 explorers dropped to yearly lows.

On news that it’s grabbing three Quebec uranium projects in the hot Otish Mountain region, AntOro Resources was propelled to the top weekly trader position with 16.2 million shares changing hands. Shares in the company closed up three pennies at 12.5 apiece.

Strong market focus on uranium again kept Strateco Resources amongst the most-active traders over the week with volume of 13.7 million shares, ending down a penny at $1.79 per share. Recent high-grade U3O8 values from the company’s Matoush project, also in northern Quebec’s Otish Mountain area, have enthralled investors.

Shares in another uranium-focused junior, Gravity West Mining, perked up over the week with trading volume of 9.7 million, gaining a penny to close at 7.5 apiece. The company has significant landholdings in northwestern Ontario’s Sibley basin area.

Gold Reach Resources traded 9.3 million shares on the week, shedding 1.5 to close at 20.5 per share following its recent rally. Drilling on its Seel project in west-central B.C. recently returned a 138-metre intercept of 0.85% copper and 23 grams silver per tonne.

Shares of Purepoint Uranium Group shot up after a magazine drew attention to its Turnor Lake project in northern Saskatchewan’s Athabasca basin. The stock rallied as much as 58% before settling to close the week up 18 at 68 per share on almost 9 million shares traded.

Uranium producer UrAsia Energy lost 14 to close the session at $3.35 per share on trading volume of 8 million. The company operates its Akdala mine in Kazakhstan.

New Cantech Ventures saw more than 7.8 million shares change hands on the week, gaining 11 to close up 27% at 52. It plans to extend a recent drill hole at its Lucky Ship project in west-central B.C. where it recently cut a number of significant molybdenum values. It also entered into an agreement with a Korean group that plans to acquire 60% of the porphyry project by placing it into production and fully financing development.

Acadian Gold got a market boost after drilling indicated gold mineralization at its Tangier project, in Nova Scotia, extends westward across the Copper Lake fault. Shares in the company gained 9 to close at 68 apiece on trading volume of almost 7 million.

Further wide gold mineralized intercepts from Aquila Resources’ Back Forty project, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, rallied the stock 63% on the week to close up 64 at $1.65 per share on trading volume of 4.5 million.
