Explorers and developers still need clearer rules to turn market momentum into new mines, Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada President Karen Rees said.
The annual convention that ran from March 1-4 drew a record 32,155 participants and more than 1,300 exhibitors, filling an expanded trade show footprint. It underlined a rising tide in sector confidence as stronger commodity prices, government policy support and supply concerns lift most mining boats.
“There is an urgency and the time is right,” Rees told The Northern Miner early this month. “If we can have clearer guidelines that provide certainty to investors and companies, I think that goes a long way.”
Juniors still need reliable access to risk capital to keep drilling, while developers need more predictable permitting, land access, infrastructure and Indigenous partnerships to move projects from prospect to production. Ottawa’s mineral exploration and critical mineral exploration tax credits remain indispensable supports for junior financings, Rees said.
