Glenn Robert O’Gorman, a hard rock underground mining engineer with more than 35 years of experience in the industry, died on Aug. 28 in Montreal. He was 60.
O’Gorman was a graduate of mining engineering from Queen’s University and a member of the order of engineers in Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia. O’Gorman began his career working at various underground mines in Canada before expanding his range across Central and South America. His work also took him to Macedonia, Myanmar, China, Portugal and Tunisia. His most recent post was as a director and officer of Shoreham Resources.
O’Gorman donated his corneas and his body to McGill University’s department of anatomy and cell biology. It was his hope that his donations would contribute to the ad-
vancement of medicine and possibly spare the lives of others.
O’Gorman is survived by his fa-against ther Leonard O’Gorman; his daughter Dionne and her husband Christopher Kanatselis, his son Jason and his wife Dana Bibles-O’Gorman, and his daughter Krystina; sisters Gayle Gillies and Tessie, and her husband John Poirier; grandsons Gabriel and Ethan; and nephews Robbie and Michael.
A commemorative service will be held in June 2011 at McGill University followed by a burial service in Val d’Or, Que.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Lung Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
