A diamond drilling program by Zappa Resources (VSE) has encountered low-grade gold mineralization on the Papa Grande concession in the Ponce Enriquez district of southwestern Ecuador.
A hydrothermal breccia body, measuring 800 metres by 500 metres, was tested with 12 holes during the recently completed program. Previously reported results from the eastern portion of the zone averaged 1.57 grams gold per tonne from surface to a depth of 83 metres.
Results from the remaining holes include: 188.69 metres of 0.31 gram for hole 8; 35.97 metres of 0.09 gram for hole 9; 67.68 metres of 0.78 gram for hole 11; and 106.7 metres of 0.44 gram for hole 12.
Zappa reports that drilling was hampered in the western part of the breccia as a result of old underground workings and late-stage intrusive dykes. Sampling of an underground tunnel structure, discovered while drilling, returned values averaging 1.65 grams over a length of 62 metres.
A program of geophysics is planned for the next phase of work in order to expand the brecciated zone.
