The latest drilling results at Mano River Resources’ (MNO-V) Yirisen gold deposit in Sierra Leone, West Africa, continues to hit good gold grades beneath an artisanal mining pit. The project is a joint venture between Mano River and Golden Star Resources (GSC-T) which can earn up to 85% interest.
The Pampana property, situated 150 km east of Freetown, comprises two exclusive prospecting licences, the North and South Pampana which together encompass 140 sq. km. The property is underlain by the Sula Mountains greenstone gold belt. Structural features that host gold and base metal mineralization are exposed within the licences. As well, the Pampana River and its tributaries reportedly contained some very rich alluvial gold workings.
The North Pampana hosts the Yirisen gold deposit, which is Mano River’s most advanced gold project in Sierra Leone. The licences host additional gold targets at Kalmoro and Masamank, a further 1 km east and 8 km southwest of Yirisen, respectively.
The latest six holes resulted in encouraging assay results with significant intersections from hole YDD8 in the drill program including 4.07 grams gold per tonne over 19 metres and 1.71 grams gold over 15 metres. Within this hole, a series of narrow high grade veins within a lower grade envelope resulted in 23.96, 19.58, 9.62, 14.86 and 20.86 grams gold in hole YDD8.
The company says that the long intersections in drill hole YDD8, for a combined 34 metres, confirm the presence of a significant zone of mineralization beneath the 60-metre-long artisanal working locally called the UN pit.Four of the five holes testing a 100 metre section of the Yirisen gold zone yielded significant assay results at Yirisen including 7.77 grams gold over 14 metres from a depth of 39 metres which were reported in June. This section included 8 metres grading 13 grams gold.
The Yirisen gold system trends north-northeast for 3.75 km of strike along which it is open in both directions and is defined by in situ mineralization, artisanal workings and soil geochemical anomalies.
