Drilling is expected to get under way in the near future at the Sleeper Extension gold project in Nevada.
X-Cal Resources (TSE) will begin a 3,000-to-5,000-ft. drilling program once the necessary access road has been constructed. The company also plans to conduct excavator trenching, so as to delineate previously identified targets.
X-Cal is working to identify mineralization similar to that of Amax Gold’s nearby Sleeper mine, which is nearing the end of its operating life.
Exploration work earlier this year outlined a zone of mineralization on the X-Cal ground about 8,000 ft. from the Amax milling complex at Sleeper.
Trenching on the new zone in January exposed a 45-ft.-wide zone grading 0.046 oz. gold per ton.
Subsequent work leads X-Cal to believe that the new discovery, called Area 1, may be connected with Area 2, which is 5,000 ft. away, along strike. Rock sampling between the two areas has returned values ranging from 0.01 to 0.2 oz. gold.
