The announcement is based on a visual inspection of drill core from a program undertaken by St. Genevieve Resources (TSE) as part of its plan to earn a 50% stake in the south end of the property.
Having completed the first hole, operator St. Genevieve has already started drilling a second 3,000-ft hole to test for massive sulphides at depth.
Wrightbar and St. Genevieve are hoping that drilling will lead to the discovery of a massive sulphide deposit like the one which Aur Resources (TSE) and Societe Miniere Louvem (TSE) are exploring five miles further east in Louvicourt Twp. St. Genevieve owns 53% of Louvem. Potential reserves on the Aur- Louvem property now stand at 36 million tons of grade 3.11% co pper, 1.34% zinc, 0.55 oz silver per ton and 0.025 oz gold.
The fact that St. Genevieve has hit about five feet of copper stringer mineralization is regarded as significant by the company’s consulting geologist Dale Hendrick, who visited the Wrightbar property recently.
“At Aur, the chronology of the drill hole observations leading to the discovery was first the identification of copper stringers followed by the intersection of massive sulphide ore,” he said.
The first Wrightbar hole was designed to test for a downdip extension of a 500,000-ton (grading 1.3%) copper deposit on the southern end of Wrightbar’s Bourlamaque claims.
The 3,000-ft hole will test for massive sulphide mineralization downdip from the old Golden Manitou Wolverine zone containing 70,000 tons of grade 5.06% zinc, 3.8 oz silver 0.03 oz gold, says Hendrick.
Hendrick is encouraged by the fact that the Wrightbar copper deposit is on the same structure that hosted the former Manitou- Barvue copper-zinc mine.
The claims containing Manitou are adjacent to the south of the Wrightbar property. Manitou was mined to a depth of 4,200 ft and produced 7.5 million tons of massive sulphide ore containing 4.52% zinc, 3.6 oz silver and 0.03 oz gold per ton. About 3.8 million tons of grade 0.82% copper and 0.02 oz gold was also extracted from the old mine. __ ____________________________________________________________________
