A new World Mining Map of Non- ferrous Metals which is claimed for the first time to include centrally- planned-economy countries, is now available from a West German publisher.
The map package, which includes four regional maps and an “Index of Mines” booklet, shows the locations and relative significance of major non-ferrous metals producers of copper, lead, nickel, zinc, tin, aluminium and other metals.
There are 481 active mines located on the map, each with an annual production (gross metal value) of at least DM 20 millions, or, for instance, a metal output of at least 5,000 tons nickel or 100,000 tons aluminium.
The map was compiled on the basis of data for 1983, updated to a limited extent between 1984 and 1986.
The four regional maps in the package show significant mining areas in the U.S.(copper), Peru (lead and zinc), Zaire and Zambia (copper) and in Yugoslavia, Rumania and Bulgaria (lead, zinc and copper), in detail.
The Index of Mines booklet gives the name, mine or mining district, location, mine operator, production figures and geographical coordinates.
A bilingual (English and German) international edition of the map sells for $19(US) a copy, (folded, with hard cover), or $25, (unfolded, with hanging strip).
