Women in mining organized in U.S.

Women in Mining, a national U.S. organization dedicated to educating its members and the public about the importance of mineral and energy resources, elected a new slate of officers at a recent meeting in Denver attended by representatives from its eight chapters.

Patricia A. Kemper, a member of the Denver chapter, was named president of the national organization. Before retiring in 1986, she spent 17 years with the Mining and Coal Division of Mobile Oil in various geologic positions.

Named to the Women in Mining’s National Hall of Fame was its immediate past president Kathy Lamping and Georgia Lauritzen of the Battle Mountain chapter.

The first Women in Mining group was organized in Denver in 1976.
