Wolfden, Jonpol test Pickle Crow property

Partners Wolfden Resources (WOLF-C) and Jonpol Explorations (JON-T) continue to test the past-producing Pickle Crow gold mine property, 12 km northeast of Pickle Lake in northwestern Ontario.

By year-end, the partners hope to perform a bulk sample of the No. 5 vein crown pillar. In the meantime, drilling continues to test the No. 13 vein and several other targets on the property.

A first-phase, 9-hole drill program was aimed at testing unmined zones, including the No. 1 Iron Formation zone, an open-pit target, and several nearby surface targets.

Selected results from holes testing the No. 1 Iron Formation target include: 13.7 metres grading 2.26 grams gold per tonne, 0.5 metre of 12.04 grams and 6 metres of 2.5 grams. Holes testing the No. 13 vein hit 2.5 metres of 6.76 grams, 1.15 metres of 10.11 grams, 2.3 metres of 38.55 grams, and 1.3 metres of 7.35 grams.

The Pickle Crow mine produced 1.4 million oz. gold from ore averaging 16.1 grams gold between 1935 and 1966. At last report, it hosted a resource of 1.07 million tonnes grading 7.54 grams gold.

In the late 1980s, the project was revived as a potential producer by Noramco Mining, a heavily promoted, cash-rich company with grandiose ambitions. A subsequent review resulted in it’s being downgraded to exploration status, along with several other of Noramco’s projects.
