A winter drill program being started by Spirit Lake Explorations (ME) on the company’s Edwards gold property is designed to block out a high-grading reserve of minable ore, President John Hansuld told The Northern Miner.
Drilling completed last fall on the property 35 km northeast of Wawa, Ont., was successful in demonstrating continuity between several high-grading drill holes.
One previously reported hole, No. 101, intersected 10.6 ft. grading 11.57 oz. gold per ton. Hole 103, 150 ft. east of 101, intersected 17 ft. grading 1.16 oz. gold. This intersection came in 265 ft. below another hole which graded 1.47 oz. gold across 23.9 ft., Spirit Lake says.
“The fall drill program has shown excellent progress and demonstrated some continuity,” Hansuld said. “The high grades were an added bonus.”
Hansuld added that Spirit Lake’s target will be a high-grade deposit. “Our target is grade not tons.” If the company is successful in blocking out very high-grading reserves of 100,000 tons or more, then a small scale mining operation would be a possibility.
