A summer drill program on the MacLeod Lake property north of Chibougamau, Que., has extended the strike length of the known zone of copper mineralization by 400 metres. Drilling to the east and west of the Main zone, which contains a preliminary reserve of 30 million tonnes grading 0.48% copper, 0.07% molybdenum and trace precious metals, Windy Mountain Explorations (COATS) picked up the mineralized zone for 200 metres on either side.
Windy also encountered copper mineralization varying in width from 10 to 75 metres in the crest of an antiform (fold) north of the Main zone. Windy says the mineralization is associated with a granodiorite/gneiss contact, which stretches for 40 km. Assay results from the recent drilling are pending.
On the 935-sq.-km property surrounding MacLeod Lake, ground follow-up of an airborne survey revealed chalcopyrite and molybdenite mineralization in three separate showings. Several other showings carried zinc mineralization and pathfinder minerals associated with gold. Cochise Resources (COATS) can earn a 50% interest in this extensive landholding by spending $1.25 million by November 1992.
After freeze-up, Windy will use the $706,250 recently raised through a private placement to enhance tonnage on the Main zone and to test zones to the north and south.
