WHAT”S NEW

Wajax Industries has been named the sole distributor of ABS Pumps, a maker of a broad line of submersible pumps for the mining industry.

Wajax will provide parts and service on ABS dewatering and trash handling pumps. The ABS Jumbo screened dewatering pumps come in 11 models ranging from 1 1/3-Hp to 95-Hp sizes and from 2- to 10-inch discharge openings.

These rugged, compact submersibles are guaranteed to run dry and feature the ABS patented “Sealminder” advance warning electronic moisture detector.

A Quantum Leap

Ingersoll-Rand’s Rock Drill Division unveiled its new QL4 downhole drill, the first in the company’s new Quantum Leap series of drills, at MINExpo International ’92.

The drills feature a revolutionary and patented new cycle design enabling the units to achieve higher production rates while lowering cost per foot.

Developed for European blasthole and Canadian underground hard-rock mining, the new QL4 “in-the-hole” drill achieves 25%-35% more productivity than any other drill in its class, the company says.

A key feature of the new model is a powerful, patented cycle, the vital component of which is a highly durable, engineered plastic valve directing high-pressure air into the drive chamber of the drill for nearly the entire drive stroke.

Durex-Camline

Durex-Camline is marketing its complete line of urethane and self-cleaning rubber screens. Its molded urethane trunion liners are being used in mines throughout Canada and the United States.

The company recently announced the addition of David Corriveau to its marketing efforts. Corriveau has joined Durex-Camline as nationwide sales and marketing manager working directly with customers and assisting the dealer network. Corriveau brings more than 17 years of sales and customer service experience to his new position, the company says.

Knelson Concentrators

Knelson Gold Concentrators has introduced the new Centre Discharge (CD) Series in which concentrate removal is now accomplished internally, generally requiring less than a minute to clear concentrates.

In addition, the Knelson CD Concentrator is available in a fully automated format for total process automation. This control system can be integrated into an existing DCS or it can be supplied with a PLC-driven stand-alone control package.

Holthuis renamed

Holthuis b.v., which produces GEHO and Begemann pumps, has changed its name to EnviroTech Pumpsystems. The GEHO and Begemann trade names will be retained.

Of special interest to the mining industry, the company develops, manufactures and markets dewatering systems for lowering the ground water table, pumps for transporting mineral and tailings, and metallic centrifugal pumps.

All E.A.R.S.

E.A.R.S. Enterprises markets the new Insta-mold hearing protector. It is a high-grade, room temperature-cure, hydrophobic silicone, whose polymer cures to the exact contour and shape of each individual ear.

Insta-mold enables one to fit, on-the-spot, a pair of custom-molded silicone ear protectors. In other words, the original impression becomes the finished product.

In its finished state, Insta-Mold remains soft and elastic and retains its shape permanently

M & I Door

M & I Door Systems has introduced its new full-color “MineDoors” brochure, which highlights the nearly indestructible Re-Coilaway and Posi-Drive rubber roll doors.

The brochure also details the Hi-Pressure steel sectional door, available in three models, and the revolutionary fire-resistant Concave Mandoor.

Multi-point seismograph

Instantel’s new DS-077 MiniMate is a miniature “stand-alone” seismograph that provides a cost-effective and practical solution to projects where multi-point monitoring is required or desired. The MiniMate records and stores up to 40 one-second, full-waveform events to internal memory. It operates for 10 days on a single charge.

Date/time and peak of each event can be viewed using the LCD display. The operator can change set-up information and record parameters with the tactile key pad. The MiniMate weighs less than three pounds and can be spiked to the ground or secured to a wall or ceiling.

New Secoroc head

Secoroc Ltd. has named a new president — Stanley Lundberg, replacing Sten Pettersson who has returned to Secoroc AB in Sweden.

Lundberg was born in Kiruna, Sweden and graduated in mining engineering at Skelleftea, Sweden. He first joined Secoroc in 1962 and served in progressively more responsible positions — most recently with T-H Industries in Pennsylvania — before taking on this latest assignment.

Magnetic flowmeter

Endress + Hauser’s latest magnetic flowmeter, Tecmag, offers two unique and attractive features in auto and dual-ranging.

The user simply presets a time, from a minute to 24 hours, during which the Tecmag automatically determines the maximum flow rate and calculates the optimal measuring range as 120% of the maximum flow rate measured.

Lightweight valves

Mac Valves has recently introduced the 44 Series, an extremely light, small-footprinted, high flowing 10 mm direct solenoid operated 4-way valve.

Though no lubrication is needed for any Mac Valve, cylinder lubrication with a medium aniline point oil is permissible through the 44 Series, the company says.
