WHAT’S NEW Manoeuvrable Scoop

The world’s smallest 4-wheel drive diesel-powered scoop has been developed by John Clark Inc. of Denver, Colo. Called the jci 50m, it has a 1/2-cu- yd bucket and weighs 6,000 lb. It was designed to be efficient, compact and highly manoeuvrable in tight quarters — with headings measuring 4×7 ft. The 50m is 32 inches wide and, to the top of the operator’s head, is 68 inches high. It is 12 ft long. The 27-hp Deutz engine requires only 2,500 cu ft of ventilation air per minute. The operator is seated sideways for efficient bi- directinal operation.

J.S. Redpath has bought a 50m and put it to work at one of Seabright Resources’ properties in Nova Scotia. The unit is also available with an ac electric motor and cable reel for deeper, hard-to-ventilate mines.
