Two lubricants — one that increases diamond drill bit life and one for pneumatic drilling — have been developed by D. A. Stuart Inc. of Scarborough, Ont. Designated Dasco CS-7-J, the new diamond drill lubricant forms a continuous film on the bit to reduce rod vibration while providing more slip for smoother operation. Core samples are not contaminated by the lubricants, the company says.
In a one-year study in Sudbury, Sturaco at lubricants, designed specifically for pneumatic drills, were tested against a major, long-time supplier. These tests found the Stuart lubricants reduced wear on parts, reduced oil mist in the mine air and reduced freeze-up problems.
