Toronto-based consulting firm Watts, Griffis and McOuat has signed a contract with Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines to review the exploration potential in that African nation. The work is part of a program to expand ore reserves in Zambia. Ross Lawrence, vice-president of WGM, said the contract began with a 2-month review of the status of exploration in Zambia, including work along the Copper Belt and elsewhere in that country.
WGM’s study will include a review of reports and limited field examinations, he said. As well, the study will include reviews of relevant mineral deposits, geology and the services in support of exploration in countries adjoining Zambia.
The program’s objective is to identify areas where additional exploration may lead to the discovery of new orebodies or extensions to known ore. According to Lawrence, modern techniques which might not have been used previously in Zambia could contribute to a better understanding of the geological situation.
Following WGM’s field review, a critical analysis will be done prior to issuing a final report. The project forms part of a long-term endeavor by Zambia to increase its minable ore reserves.
