Toronto-based consulting firm Watts, Griffis and McOuat (WGM) has reached a joint venture agreement with Almazy Rossia-Sakha of Russia to provide exclusive diamond exploration and mining services to the mining industry of Canada and Alaska.
Almazy Rossia-Sakha, which has been in operation for more than 35 years, is one of the world’s largest diamond producers. The company has identified more than 800 kimberlites and currently operates several placer and seven open-pit mines, including the 12-million-tonne-per-year Udachny mine on the Arctic Circle.
Almazy has the largest diamond research facility in the Arctic Circle. As part of the joint venture, WGM and Almazy will present a tour and technical workshop of the Russian diamond-producing region of Sakha in May.
