Consulting geology and engineering firm Watts, Griffis and McOuat (WGM), will deliver a one-day seminar during the March 9-12 meeting of the Saudi Society for Geosciences at the Hilton Hotel in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The seminar, to be hosted by Al Workman, a senior geologist and vice-president at WGM, will examine the fundamentals of mineral exploration.
“In understanding the challenges of mineral exploration, project planners understand that there are no short cuts to mine development,” said Workman in a statement. “Exploration geologists must make use of a multi-disciplinary approach involving all of the tools that are available to them: geological mapping, remote sensing, geochemical sampling and geophysical surveying are the main tools.”
Workman also noted that organizations can avoid risk by taking the exploration process one step at a time.
“The drill should be the last instrument used because it is also the most expensive.”
Workman speaks from experience, having spent 30 years in diverse settings from grassroots mining projects to more advanced projects, overseeing diamond drilling and the compilation of reserve estimates. As a project geologist, Workman played a key role in the discovery of the Holt-Mc- Dermott gold deposit, near Kirkland Lake, Ont.
The workshop will address the tools available to geoscientists and explorers, including data from previous exploration companies in the area, the Saudi Geological Survey, and information compiled by qualified persons who have worked in Saudi Arabia.
CNSX Markets And RM Communications Revamp Newswire
Canadian-based stock exchange operator CNSX Markets (CNSX) has teamed up with communications company RM Communications (RMC) to provide a new system to distribute press releases of CNSX-listed companies.
The system will deliver press releases in real time to companies, shareholders and newswire services. The program will also send targeted e-mails using the CNSX’s e-mail database.
Companies will be given a 90-day test drive of the program before deciding whether to opt in or not.
Shaun Ruddy, a managing partner at RMC, noted in a statement that the CNSX is “Canada’s only exchange that offers third-party, arm’s-length service providers like (RMC) the opportunity to provide a variety of investor communications services to listed companies without having to compete with the exchange directly.”
The software can also be used to send mass e-mails with trackers that allow companies a chance to see which investors and investment companies have shown interest in their news releases. More than 100 securities trade on the CNSX.
