A 12,500-ft drilling contract has been let by Westmin Resources which will test several targets on the Westmain project shared with partner Eastmain Resources in Quebec. MSV Resources, which can earn a 30% interest in the ground, is funding the program.
Drilling, which will begin early this month, will focus on the Lac Elmer horizon, a 12-km-long zone which shows geological similarities with the zones hosting the Hemlo and Bousquet gold deposits in Ontario and Quebec respectively. Prospecting has identified six mineralized zones within the Lac Elmer unit.
In the West zone, grab samples from a 300-m strike section, assayed up to 7% copper, 5% zinc, 1% lead, 0.13 oz gold and 4.6 oz silver per ton. High grade gold values from the Gold zone, assayed up to 3.9 oz in grab samples, Eastmain says.
In the Copper-Zinc zone, earlier drilling intersected 4.8% zinc and 1.5% lead across 3.3 ft. In the A-21 zone, a drill hole intersected 3.31 ft grading 0.2 oz gold and 10 oz silver.
Other projects within the joint venture lands in the area are also scheduled for drilling this year. These include the Clearwater, C-52, Lichteneger and Reservoir permits.
