The tenth hole to be drilled on the newly discovered Wolverine zone has stepped out on the eastern extension and intersected 5.6 metres of faulted massive sulphides.
The zone lies within the Foot claims of Atna Resources (VSE) in south-central Yukon. The claims form part of a package of properties in which Westmin Resources (TSE) can earn a 60% interest by spending $3 million on exploration over five years.
Hole 95-16 was drilled on section 16+800E, about 50 metres east of holes 95-10, 12 and 13, and encountered the zone at a depth of 236.6 metres. The 5.6-metre interval contained crushed and broken sections with rotated layering, which Westmin says is indicative of a fault. Assay results are pending.
The next hole to test the Wolverine is being drilled from the same section as hole 95-16 and is collared to intersect the zone 100 metres downdip.
The ninth hole, 95-13, was drilled beneath holes 95-10 and 12 from section 16+750E, about 50 metres east of the discovery section. It intersected 22.2 metres, for a true thickness of 11.1 metres grading 10.21% zinc, 0.99% copper and 1.04% lead, as well as 1.33 grams gold and 247 grams silver per tonne, at a depth of 342.6 to 364.8 metres.
Hole 95-13 intercepted the massive sulphide zone 156 metres downdip of hole 95-12, extending the dip length from surface to about 400 metres. Hole 13, the most northerly intercept to date, confirms a 100-metre strike length at depth.
The Foot property is 20 km east of, and occurs in a similar stratigraphic package of rocks as, Cominco’s Kudz Ze Kayah project, where an inferred resource is outlined at 13 million tonnes grading 5.5% zinc, 1% copper and 1.3% lead, plus 1.2 grams gold and 125 grams silver. Cominco is fast-tracking the project for development.
