Ongoing drilling by Westmin Resources (TSE) is expanding the newly discovered Battle zone on the company’s Myra Falls mine property near Campbell River, B.C.
The company recently obtained a fourth “spectacular” drill hole intersection on the zone 30 metres (98.4 ft.) south of a previously reported intersection obtained on hole 14-907.
The latest hole, 14-908 (drilled on section 15+85E), returned a 7.8-metre (25.6-ft.) intersection grading 2.1 grams (0.06 oz.) gold and 63.2 grams (1.8 oz.) silver per tonne, plus 0.6% copper, 0.7% lead and 8.2% zinc. It also returned a 16.2-metre (53.14-ft.) interval grading 1.6 grams (0.04 oz.) gold and 26.5 grams (0.77 oz.) silver, 3.8% copper, 0.1% lead and 16.3% zinc. Westmin has two rigs drilling in the Battle zone area. A third machine is seeking western extensions of the Gap zone, without success to date. In 1991, Westmin reported considerable success from its drilling program in the Gap zone, a previously untested area of the property.
The Battle zone derives its name from debate as to whether the zone is more geologically similar to the nearby Gap zone discovery or to H-W mine lenses. Westmin’s current drilling program is aimed at expanding reserves on the Myra Falls mine property which has produced for over 25 years.
The operation consists of the Lynx and H-W underground mines, a milling complex and related facilities within Strathcona Park on Vancouver Island.
