Westmin encouraged in Argentina

Encouraging drill results have been reported following the first season of drilling at the Fin Del Mundo project on the southern tip of Argentina. The 3,413-Metre program consisted of 18 holes.

Situated in Tierra del Fuego, the 193,000-ha concession is owned by Yamana Resources (YRI-T). Operator of the project is Westmin Resources (WMI-T), which can earn a half interest by spending US$6.3 million over four years, and an additional 10% by carrying out a bankable feasibility study.

Three of eight targets were tested in an attempt to outline volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits.

The best results were encountered in hole 7 at the Arroyo Rojo massive sulphide occurrence, and in holes 8 and 12 at the Sargent prospect.

Drilling at Arroyo Rojo concentrated on a 250-Metre-long sulphide outcrop.

The target remains open downdip and along strike to the east under talus cover.

Hole 7 returned 17.9 metres (true thickness) of 0.17% copper, 1.18% lead and 4.53% zinc, including a 5-Metre intercept of 0.19% copper, 1.16% lead and 5.97% zinc and 2.6 metres of 0.21% copper, 2.67% lead and 7.22% zinc.

At the Sargent occurrence, 5 km to the west, drilling tested downdip extensions of a surface showing that assayed 4.4% copper across 4 metres of intensely chloritized rhyolite.

Holes 8 and 9 intersected sulphide mineralization next to chloritized rhyolite, similar to the rhyolite where the 4.4% copper outcrop was sampled.

The best intercept in hole 8 was 0.15 metre (true thickness) of 0.4% copper, 4.9% lead and 7.8% zinc, as well as 0.32 gram gold and 4 grams silver per tonne; hole 9 returned 12.6 metres of 0.8% copper, 0.05% lead, 0.18% zinc, 0.05 gram gold and 1 gram silver; hole 10 intersected low-grade zinc mineralization; and hole 12 returned 0.28 metre of 1% copper, 10% lead, 27.5% zinc, 0.6 gram gold and 277 grams silver, plus 0.56 metre of 2.3% copper, 2.2% lead, 7.7% zinc, 0.2 gram gold and 48 grams silver.

The third target, Lago Guanaco, situated 1.5 km north of Arroyo Rojo, was only partially tested with two holes, both of which intersected low-grade base metal sulphides.
