Westfield Minerals (TSE) says a small geological deposit of about 200,000 tons with economic grades of copper, zinc, silver and gold has been outlined on the Big Island Lake property near Flin Flon, Man., it shares with Goldbrae Developments (VSE).
In 1988, some 19,000 ft of diamond drilling has been completed on the property up to the end of March. The program has defined massive sulphide mineralization with important associated gold and silver values.
Westfield says the potential to substantially increase the reserves is excellent. Drilling, suspended in late March for break-up, will resume in late May.
Hole 41, previously unreported, intersected some of the best mineralization seen to date on the property and represents a true width of 25-35 ft suggesting that mineralization may thicken with depth.
The mineralization is offset by faulting at a depth of 300 ft and when drilling resumes emphasis will be put on intersecting mineralization in the footwall of the fault.
A major summer field program will start in late May which will include an additional 10,000 ft of drilling. The program will also include intensive prospecting and trenching along the western side of the property with which the known mineralization is associated. Several anomalous gold and base metal soil anomalies are asssociated with this conductor which extends for three miles.
A reconnaissance program is planned on the eastern side of the property which will evaluate a sheared sequence of felsic volcanic rocks and will include geochemical sampling and prospecting followed by trenching.
Budgeted expenditures for 1988 on the Big Island Lake property exceed $1.5 million. Hole from % % % %
