Diamond drilling is under way on Western Troy Capital Resources’ (ASE) Wagg gold prospect near Nestor Falls, Ont.
The program will total 3,000 ft., with six holes totaling 1,072 ft. having already been completed.
Two holes, 94-01 and 94-02, were drilled to test the F zone, where a portion of a 6,000-ton bulk sample is being excavated and milled. Although 4-to-5-inch quartz veins were encountered in both holes, they could not be correlated to the surface vein, which, in places, reaches widths of 10 ft. Holes 94-03 to 94-06 were drilled to intersect the A and B zones, from which, to date, most of the 6,000-ton bulk sample has been excavated. Hole 94-03 intersected the B zone from 22 to 26 ft. down the hole. The zone consists of a 1-ft. quartz vein, plus 3 ft. of sheared and altered mafic volcanics, 30% of which contains quartz stringers. Abundant visible gold was observed near the upper contact of the intersection. Zone A was encountered at 129 to 132.5 ft. downhole and consisted of a 10-inch quartz vein, with about 10 inches of sheared and altered mafic volcanic (including quartz stringers) on both sides of the vein. The upper sheared zone contains abundant visible gold.
Hole 94-04 was drilled to test the intersection of zones A and B. Quartz veins were not encountered, but mineralized shear zones were noted in two locations. A porphyry dyke containing mineralized stringers at both contacts was encountered at 53-61 ft.
The A and B zones were also encountered in holes 94-05 and 06. Locally, these intersections contain visible gold.
Additional holes will test another gold showing on the property.
