Harsh weather has forced Tapestry Ventures (VSE) and Portman Explorations (VSE) to suspend drilling operations at their jointly held ANAK-1 property in the Voisey Bay area of Labrador.
The companies report that severe storms and high winds jeopardized drilling crews to the point where their safety could no longer be guaranteed.
As a result, the drill has been secured at its present location until January, when gale conditions are expected to moderate.
Prior to shutting down the drills, the partners managed to complete several holes to test the Cliff Gossan, a 1,000-metre-long rusty gossan zone on a steep cliff. Surface sampling along the cliff returned values of up to 0.86% nickel, 0.46% copper and 0.083% cobalt.
Hole 5, drilled on the central portion of the Cliff Gossan, returned up to 370 parts per million (ppm) copper, 270 ppm nickel and 114 ppm cobalt over 2.5 metres. Hole 2 tested the eastern-most extent of the Cliff Gossan but stopped in gneiss short of the target.
Hole 6, also on the Cliff Gossan, encountered 133 metres of leucogabbro containing 1%-5% disseminated pyrrhotite plus a 39-metre interval at the contact containing 20% graphite in a chloritzed and silicified alteration zone. Twenty samples have been shipped for assay from the hole.
