Production and gold grades are both up at the Indian River placer project, Gold City Resources (ASE) said recently.
Located 35 miles southeast of Dawson City, Y.T., Indian River is a joint venture involving Gold City, Dawson Eldorado Mines (VSE) and the Hughes-Lang Group.
As expected, with operations still in progress, the joint venture is planning to produce 10,000 oz gold at the sluice recovery stage.
Gold City President Paul White said the Indian River was diverted in August to allow the joint venture to prepare naturally thawed ground in ancient “ox bow” areas at three locations.
Near Quartz Creek mouth, September production is averaging 75 to 100 fine oz gold per 22-hour shift and one daily cleanup returned 175 fine oz.
Meanwhile, preparation of another thawed area in the McKinnon Creek vicinity is complete and production will continue as long as warm fall weather permits.
The thawed area is designed to replace the Ruby Creek pit where clay conditions required changes in mining plans for the 1989 season.
White said the round the clock operation will continue until Oct 15 or later and a major stripping program for mining in 1989 will be undertaken next month.
