Ward to enter Hall of Fame

The Mining Foundation of the Southwest will stage its 11th annual American Mining Hall of Fame awards banquet Dec. 4 in Tucson, Ariz.

The banquet will precede the annual meeting of the Arizona conference of AIME (American Institute of Mining Engineers). Each year, the foundation honors one living recipient and up to two honorees from mining history. Medals of Merit are also awarded.

This year’s inductee will be Milton Ward, chairman of Cyprus Amax Corp. of Denver, Colo. The two honorees to be inducted will be Meyer Guggenheim, who helped to develop Asarco, and George Hearst, developer of the Comstock Lode. Medals will be awarded to Walter Heinrichs and Willard Lacy.
