VSE sets all-time record in 1995

The Vancouver Stock Exchange entered the new year on a high note by reporting that it had set an all-time volume record in 1995.

More than 6.1 billion shares were traded, which is 16.2% higher than in 1994. The figure breaks the previous annual volume record of 5.7 billion shares, set in 1993.

Annual value, at $6.4 billion, was up 11.1% over 1994 but shy of the record of 6.8 billion set in 1993.

Volume figures for December increased 18.4% over December 1994, reaching a total of 480 million shares. Value figures for December were up sharply over December 1994 at $435 million, a 63.7% increase over 1994 but down 26.9% from last month.

The VSE Composite Index closed the year at 795.9, up 3% over 1994 and 2% from the previous month. For December, the Commercial-Industrial, Resource and Venture Indices were each supported by gains of 2% across the board from 1995.
