Drilling deeper at its Project 44 joint-venture project with Takla Star Resources (TKR-A), near Nain, Labrador, NDT Ventures (NDE-V) has hit more low-grade intervals of nickel, copper and cobalt.
Ground geophysical and gravity surveys, as well as diamond drilling, continue at the Valley zone of Project 44. Hole 44-4 was deepened to 327.7 metres and intersected zones of magnetite-rich norite with minor sulphides, but no significant economic mineralization. Hole 44-9 was drilled to a depth of 339 metres to test a geophysical conductor associated with the southern edge of the zone. Anomalous mineralization was encountered, with a 4.75-metre interval averaging 0.15% nickel, 0.18% copper and 0.018% cobalt.
At the Unity zone of Project 44, hole 44-7 was deepened to 303.9 metres to test a sulphide-rich section previously intersected in hole 44-6. No significant sulphides were en- countered. Drilling is under way on Anomaly 9, situated at the extreme southern end of the zone, in an attempt to test a strong geophysical conductor. Grab samples of mineralization have assayed up to 1.5% nickel and 2.87% copper.
The recently completed surveys over Project 44 have highlighted areas where further drilling is warranted.
Work also continues at Projects 43, 46 and 61, NDT’s other joint ventures with Takla Star.
At Project 43, situated 6 km east of Nain, drilling will soon begin testing a zone of massive sulphides in olivine norite and adjacent troctolite. The zone is marked by a strong ground geophysical conductor with surface mineralization assaying up to 1.3% nickel and 1% copper.
Drilling is also planned for Project 46, situated 10 km south of Project 43, where a zone of disseminated-to-net-textured massive sulphides, measuring 400 metres long by up to 30 metres wide, has been identified in olivine-bearing mafic rocks. Grab samples have assayed up to 1.27% nickel, 2.27% copper and 0.15% cobalt.
On Project 61, situated 7 km southwest of the Voisey’s Bay project of Inco, geological mapping and gravity surveys are testing the geological setting of the troctolite body on the property. Grades of up to 1.86% nickel, 0.45% copper and 0.16% cobalt have been mapped in both granitic and troctolite rocks on the property. A gravity survey has been carried out over the troctolite.
On Project 122 (which NDT has optioned from Lucero Resources [LCR-V]), field work has defined several east-trending faults and lineaments coincident with weak surface mineralization. A recent gravity survey over the property, situated 13 km east of the Eastern Deeps deposit, indicates that a 200-metre-thick ultramafic-troctolite body occurs at a depth of 300 metres.
Applications for drill permits have been completed.
Meanwhile, Columbia Yukon Resources (CYR-A) and International CanAlaska Resources (ICA-V) have begun drilling their first deep drill hole on the VBE 1 claim block, which lies east of the Voisey’s Bay Eastern Deeps discovery of Diamond Fields (now owned by Inco). The drill site selected is on a gravity anomaly with a strong magnetic signature, and the planned depth of the probe is 1,000 metres. The partners expect that the geological information from the drill hole will help them to determine the potential for mineralization similar to Inco’s Eastern Deeps deposit (at Voisey’s Bay) under the claims.
