The Toronto Geological Discussion Group (TGDG) is hosting VMS Day, as part of a larger effort to rekindle interest in Canadas volcanogenic massive sulphide deposits.
The event is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the Toronto Board of Trade, First Canadian Place, from 1 until 5 p.m.
VMS Day will highlight the recent activity of five Canadian juniors, as well as a synthesis of the VMS model by the Geological Survey of Canada.
VMS deposits account for 27% of Canadas historical copper production and about half of its historical zinc production but Canadas copper and zinc resources have diminished to one-fifth of what they were 30 years ago.
The TGDG posits that this is due at least in part to a decline in VMS exploration.
But a number of junior companies are applying modern exploration technology and geological models in attempts to rebuild Canadas VMS copper and zinc resources.
Among the confirmed speakers are: David Rigg of Alexis Minerals (who will discuss the Abitibi); Allan Galley, Geological Survey of Canada; Thomas Quigley, Aquila Resources (Michigan); Lynda Bloom, Halo Resources (northern Manitoba)Darrell Hyde of Rambler Metals (Newfoundland); Trevor Boyd, Tribute Minerals (Confederation Belt, Ont.).
The cost is $25 for TGDG members, $50 for non-members.
