Virginia drills at Ungava Peninsula

Drilling is under way on the Kogaluk permit on Quebec’s Ungava Peninsula, reports Virginia Gold Mines (VIA-M).

As part of a joint venture with Cominco (CLT-T) and Quebec Crown-owned Soquem, Virginia is targeting mineralized zones identified within a 14-km-long corridor of iron formation.

A previous drill program at the tip of an electomagnetic conductor on Kogaluk cut up to 4.9 grams gold per tonne over 5.6 metres, including 16.9 grams over 1.5 metres. The conductor remains open and unexplored over a strike length of more than 600 metres.

Meanwhile, Virginia will map and sample a belt of volcano-sedimentary rocks running through the Payne property north of Kogaluk. A grab sample last summer graded 2.5 grams.
