Private equity brings countercyclical investment strategies that can be a lifeline for junior explorers and miners in a down market, Resource Capital Funds partner and head of credit David Halkyard says.

But junior mining companies also need to step up their game to attract funding.

“What puts people off investing is there’s been a lack of good execution in the industry consistently,” Halkyard told The Northern Miner’s western editor, Henry Lazenby, during last month’s Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada’s annual convention in Toronto.

Halkyard says that junior mining companies need to spend more time and effort on doing mining right and telling their respective stories clearly to build investor confidence.

Halkyard also touched on the challenges of government support for mining. While there is government backing through subsidies and financial supports for critical minerals projects, it’s not quick to access.
