Video: Geoscience BC studies rare earths in old coal mines

Geoscience BC minerals manager, Brady Clift.

Geoscience B.C. has recently completed a project on rare earth elements in coal projects in southeast British Columbia, a first in public quantification for the area. It also started a new project to map important minerals in the province’s mine waste and tailings.

The not-for-profit organization aims to make the results of these studies publicly available to encourage further research and potential commercialization, the organization’s minerals manager, Brady Clift, told The Northern Miner’s western editor, Henry Lazenby, during the recent AME Roundup event in Vancouver.

Geoscience BC is also exploring other initiatives, including evaluating sedimentary basins for carbon dioxide storage and conducting a carbon mineralization test in ultramafic rocks.
