AtkinsRéalis plans to layer AI tools into its engineering platforms that help detect schedule slips and cost overruns as they happen, executive Ed Humphries says in a new video interview.
The consulting engineering services firm, formerly known as SNC-Lavalin, is tapping AI to run design scenarios on software in a bid to speed up project delivery times. The aim is to that a project’s capital costs will hold to plan and transparency so that owners can guide projects to completion on time and on budget – critical measures in the mining world.
“Now we’re really coming into a world of 24-hour decision action cycles around big capital projects,” Humphries, vice-president of global capabilities for the company’s minerals and metals unit, said earlier this month in Quebec City.
Early AI adoption stalled in mining when pilot projects failed to sway miners to adapt their business models, Humphries said. AtkinsRéalis plans to embed AI across design and project controls, enabling teams to spot risks at a glance and compress decision cycles from weeks to hours.
