University contest slated for 2000

The University of Toronto will host the 10th annual Canadian Mining Games next spring in conjunction with Mining Millennium 2000, which takes place from March 5-10, 2000.

The games will involve teams of 16 from the mining programs of nine Canadian universities. Competitions will include technical and theoretical

exercises, ranging from knowledge of rock mechanics and mine rescue skills to mineral separation and jackleg drilling. In addition, teams will be

judged on mining-related presentations

The games will be held as part of Mining Millennium 2000, the first joint meeting of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Mining Metallurgy and Petroleum.
