United Minerals explores newly aquired BC claims

Preliminary work is under way at Canadian United Minerals’ recently acquired Fireweed polymetallic prospect 10 km west of Noranda’s Bell mine in central B.C.

Trenching and sampling, along with geological mapping, soil geochemistry and geophysical surveys, are ongoing. Results will determine if diamond drilling will follow next January, President Leif Ostensoe reports.

An independent geological report concludes that potentially economic mineralization, associated with widespread pyritization, has been found on the claims in outcrops and float boulders. One pyritic, manganiferous sandstone outcrop containing lead-zinc mineralization was sampled and returned silver values of approximately nine oz per ton silver across a 9.5-m exposure. Two other samples from the area yielded 1.2 and 2.1 oz silver.

A magnetometer survey just completed has outlined a number of strong, well-defined magnetic highs in areas which may be the sources of the float. These areas are now being tested by an ip survey.
