U.S. ROUNDUP — Glamis receives Baltic permits

After two years of engineering and permitting, Glamis Gold (TSE) has received construction and operating permits for the company’s Baltic project.

The Baltic project is adjacent to the company’s Yellow Aster mine at Randsburg, Calif.

Permitting of the project was delayed after the Bureau of Land Management requested that the company complete an Environmental Impact Statement rather than issuing a permit based on an Environmental Assessment Review. Proven and probable reserves in the Baltic pit are estimated at 22.6 million tons grading 0.022 oz. gold.

Operating as a run-of-mine heap-leach operation, the Baltic is expected to reach full production in late 1993 at an annual rate of about 40,000 oz. gold, increasing the company’s total annual production to 100,000 oz. The Baltic project is expected to add an additional 55 jobs to the Randsburg operations, bringing total employment at the site to 135.
