U.S. REPORT NEWS IN BRIEF Construction starts at Flambeau

Construction is under way at Kennecott’s Flambeau copper deposit in Wisconsin. Flambeau Mining, a Kennecott subsidiary, will build a settling pond and water treatment plant before entering into production in late 1992. The deposit, which contains reserves of two million tons grading 10.5% copper, will be mined at a rate of 320,000 tons per year. Crushed ore will be sent to an undisclosed site for milling, smelting and refining.
