U.S. Report Nevada plant set to produce sodium cyanide

A May production startup is expected at the new CYANCO joint venture sodium cyanide plant being built in Nevada. Majority owner of CYANCO is Mining Services International of Salt Lake City. The US$11.5-million plant is designed to produce 28 million lb. sodium cyanide annually. Sodium cyanide is used in the extraction of gold and silver from precious metal- bearing ores.

Initial clients include more than one dozen Nevada mines. CYANCO is hoping to become a major supplier to the western U.S. precious metals industry. Mining Services says the U.S. market for sodium cyanide production and distribution is worth about US$200 million.

The Nevada plant will produce liquid sodium cyanide for delivery directly to the mine’s holding tank.

CYANCO is 66.7% owned by Mining Services and 33.3% by Alta Gold (NASDAQ), through wholly owned subsidiaries. The plant is being built seven miles from Winnemucca.
