A 25-kg bulk gold sample has led Typhoon Exploration (TOO-V) to stake nine new claims along its Monexco property, 30 km northeast of Chibougamau, Que.
The sample, which graded 125 grams gold per tonne, was taken during an outcrop sampling program on a secondary quartz vein. More than 80% of the gold was recovered by gravity
The vein is located on the eastern edge of Monexco, known as the no. 1 stripped outcrop area.
The property now consists of 64 claims over 7.8 sq. km.
Typhoon has determined that the gold is mainly linked to angled subsidiary structures part of the regional France Deformation Corridor, which is similar to the Cadillac break and the Destor-Porcupine break, located to the south. The area is known for visible gold occurrences people used to pan for gold in the France River.
The company is now undertaking a detailed synthesis and re-evaluation of previous works from the area to find out the significance of these secondary structures and prioritizing new targets for 2007.
In 2003 Typhoon drilled six diamond drill holes over a total of 313.5 metres. Intersections included 50 centimetres grading 14.95 grams gold per tonne and 1 metre grading 137.5 grams gold per tonne.
Grab samples taken in 1986 and 1987 returned grades of 30 grams gold per tonne and 615 grams gold per tonne.
Typhoon shares were up a cent in Toronto today to 20 on a volume of 1.5 million.
