Two potentially important new gold zones have been picked up by McAdam Resources in a systematic exploration program being carried out at its McWatters project near Noranda, Que. This is a $6-million undertaking that includes a substantial underground program.
One of these, now named the J zone, lies 1,500 ft from the old McWatters shaft and just inside the main Cadillac break. And now drilling has picked up another brand new parallel zone 230 ft to the north called the L zone in which a 10-ft section assayed 0.79 oz. gold per ton. A second hole, 120 ft to the east, returned 5.9 ft running 1.06 oz.
Recent drilling in the J zone returned a 9.2-ft section starting at 342.2 ft that assayed 0.16 oz. This is 70 ft up-dip from an 11.7-ft intersection that ran 0.44 oz.
These new zones have now been traced longitudinally for better than 300 ft and for a similar distance vertically. They lie 350 ft and 480 ft north of existing underground workings on the 400-ft level.
It is planned to drive a crosscut almost immediately to this new area, officials advise. This will facilitate further underground drilling.
In the meantime one surface drill is being used.
McAdam, operator of the project, holds a 50% interest while Tashota-Nipigon Mines and Quinteko Resources each hold a 25% interest.
