Vancouver – Two new mineralized zones at Silver Standard’s (SSO-T) Pitarilla project are likely to boost the silver resources on the project. Pitarilla is situated 150 km north of the city of Durango, in Durango state, Mexico. The company’s drilling has advanced the project very quickly from the grassroots stage in 2003.
The two new zones, Breccia Ridge and Javelina Creek, brings to four, the number of silver mineralized zones defined by drilling.
Vancouver-based Silver Standard tabled a resource for the Cordon Colorado and Pena Dyke zones based on 129 reverse circulation holes, last fall. The company came up with 16.5 million tonnes grading 113.5 grams silver per tonne for 60.2 million contained oz. silver. Another 4.8 million tonnes grading 85.1 grams, or 13.1 million oz. contained silver, were classified as inferred.
Three holes tested 400 metres of the strike length of the Breccia Ridge zone which has been traced over 900 metres on surface. The Breccia Ridge zone cuts across the top of the Cerro Pitarrilla zone and is sandwiched between the three other zones.Hole-15 at Breccia Ridge intersected 251.5 metres averaging 64.5 grams silver per tonne, 0.56% lead and 0.84% zinc from a down-hole depth of 76.2 metres, including 176.7 metres averaging 80.1 grams silver, 0.70% lead and 1.13% zinc.
Ron Burk, the company’s chief geologist, states, “We are now starting to see diamond drill evidence of the upper levels of a classic epithermal system similar to other Mexican silver-lead-zinc districts.”
At the Javelina Creek zone, some 800 metres northeast of Breccia Ridge, mineralization lies flat and begins at surface not unlike that at Cordon Colorado and Pena Dyke. Hole-4 at Javelina Creek intersected 27.3 metre averaging 136.6 grams silver per tonne.
Results are awaited for six diamond drill holes at Javelina.
The company has drilled 3,650 metres in 22 holes during its latest phase of drilling on the property and engineering studies and metallurgical testing are under way.
The next step will be to increase exploration on the property and bring in another drill to test the extent of the new mineralized zones.
