Two-day course in March on platinum exploration

A 2-day course on exploration for platinum group elements will be held in Toronto March 2-3, sponsored by the Toronto Geological Discussion Group and featuring as a course speaker one of the world’s leading experts on platinum and nickel deposits.

Leader for the course, which will be held in the Commerce Hall, Commerce Court, will be Prof Den nis Buchanan, of the Royal School of Mines, London.

Buchanan has had previous ex ploration and production exper ience in the Bushveld Complex, South Africa, with Impala Platinum, and has spent most of his scientific career on research on magmatic ore deposits. He will lead most of the course discussion.

Prof A. J. Naldrett, of the Uni versity of Toronto’s department of geology and an acknowledged world authority on platinum and nickel deposits, will address attendees at an afternoon session on March 2.

On the following day, March 3, Gerhard Brugmann, a post-doctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto, will discuss the Lac Des Iles platinum project in northwestern Ontario.
